How We'll Do It

It is hoped there will be sufficient volunteers to pick litter on every street in Ashby, and hopefully the surrounding area, although this will ultimately be determined by the number of volunteers available and their willingness to be flexible if necessary to ensure an adequate coverage of all locations; so please register your name so that we can make sure our town is picked clean!

Registered volunteers can choose their starting point from 10 possible locations:

• M & S, Smithy Road Ashby LE65 1GW
• Junction of Windermere Ave and Leicester Rd LE65 1FA
• NFU Sports Ground Upper Packington Road LE65 1TS
• Royal Hotel Station Road Ashby LE65 2GP
• Willesley Park Golf Club Measham Road LE65 2PF
• Junction of Abbey Drive and Moira Rd LE65 2LX
• Ascebi House Health Centre Burton Road LE65 2LP
• Rebound Smisby Rd Ashby LE65 2BS
• Premier Inn Flagstaff Island Ashby LE65 1JP (over 18's only)
• Prior Park, adjacent to the Bath Grounds

Volunteers helping with the Litter Pick

Each team leader will have a supply of the necessary equipment to hand out to volunteers. However we may experience a shortage of litter picks and it would therefore be a great help if you could bring your own if you can.

Leaders at each starting point will have details of the area which it is hoped the group will cover. Please co-operate with the leader to ensure that ALL of the town is covered.

Volunteers will meet at their agreed starting point no later than 1.45pm for a health & safety briefing after which they will litter pick their way to Hood Park Leisure Centre, where hot and cold refreshments await!

Ashby Town Council vehicles and staff will be travelling around the area collecting the bags of rubbish frorm agreed points, taking them to Hood Park.

North West Leicestershire District Council Waste Services will remove all the waste from Hood Park.

Youngsters will be able to exchange the rubbish they collect for a gold chocolate coin, a badge and other goodies.

Whilst enjoying a well-earned cuppa and a piece of cake share your litter picking experience with others similarly interested. Organisers of the Ashby Litter Picking Heroes group will also be present to offer advice and provide details of their group.

From 3pm refreshments will be available ‘free of charge’ to all registered volunteers.

Leicestershire Search & Rescue volunteers will be providing assistance at this event. They will be responsible for first aid, communications, the emergency contact telephone number and assisting where needed throughout the event.

At approx. 4.15 pm a group photo of all volunteers will be taken, following which the event will close and volunteers will make their way home.
